Family Literacy Night

Family Literacy Night is an annual community event that the South Hunterdon Regional Education Association has been hosting for over ten years. The event was funded in large part by the NJEA Public Education Partnership grant, along with a generous donation from Amwell Lodge No. 12, Free and Accepted Masons.

Families arrived and received a bag and an activity punch card.  Students then participated in different activities to earn free books!  There were a variety of literacy-focused stations to choose from such as campfire storytelling, WORDLE, bracelet making, karaoke, and BINGO for books.

After having fun at the activities, students had the opportunity to take home many of our THREE THOUSAND books that were paid for by the grant and donation. From the Pigeon books to the Baby-sitter’s Club and the I Survived series, in both English and Spanish, students spotted many of their favorites to help build their home libraries.

Finally, Jamar Nicholas, graphic novelist and cartoonist, spoke with the children about the magic of cartooning, being a hero, and the power of positivity. They even created their own superhero together. They loved hearing from a published author and learning more about his new book Leon, Worst Friends Forever.  They were thrilled to take home a signed copy of one of his graphic novels!

We are thankful to have a community of readers and for the opportunity to help support literacy skills both at school AND at home. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Please feel free to fill out our survey to give us your feedback on the night.

On Thursday, April 3rd, the third graders came together to celebrate their much-anticipated International Day! This special event was all about exploring and honoring cultures from around the world.

In teams of two or three, students researched countries from every continent. They created beautiful books filled with interesting facts about each country’s traditional foods, dress, and customs. After weeks of hard work and creativity, the students presented what their country is known for to visiting families.

The celebration ended with a delicious international feast, featuring tasty dishes from the countries students studied. It was a joyful and colorful day full of learning, pride, and community.

The third graders did an amazing job, and we are all so proud of their hard work and teamwork!

Science Olympiad at South Hunterdon

Congratulations to South Hunterdon's Science Olympiad team consisting of students from Lambertville and the Middle School On Location for earning the #1 spot overall at the 2025 SHRSD sponsored Science Olympiad Tournament in March.

These students not only excelled in their application of science but also through their character in representing South Hunterdon. They exemplified hard work and kindness throughout the competition. The respect and empathy they showed opposing schools throughout the day earned positive acknowledgement from other teams and coaches.

The Olympiad coaches were kind, considerate and meticulous - their professionalism was much appreciated!
