The Spring Concert Season started off on May 1st with wonderful performances by our Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes!  Kindergarten’s theme was “Down on the Farm,” based on their Wit and Wisdom farm module from earlier this year. Songs included well-known English and Spanish folk tunes such as BINGO and Los Pollitos, as well as a movement interpretation of Mussorgsky’s “Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks” with egg shakers as beaks!

The First Grade theme was “We Love Books” and included songs related to favorite books students read this year such as “Green Eggs and Ham.” They also had a scarf movement song to show their representation of different types of wind movement, based on the “Powerful Forces” Wit and Wisdom module.

Grades 3 and 4, including general music, band, and chorus, will have their concert Tuesday June 2nd at 6:30pm with a theme of “American Music” in honor of the nation’s 250th Anniversary.  Music will include folk music from across the country, patriotic tunes, and some bucket drumming set to Sousa marches!

Grade 2 will present their “Hansel and Gretel Eat Right” performance on Thursday June 11th at 2pm, and preschool will perform at their “Under the Sea” promotion ceremony on Friday June 12th at 9:30am.  We can’t wait to share what we’ve been learning in music this year!

Updates from the Art World

Fourth grade students created ocean watercolor paintings and clay coral reef sculptures inspired by the  contemporary artist and ocean advocate Courtney Mattison. Using recycled materials, students added texture to their sculptures to raise awareness about environmental impact and excessive waste. This project demonstrates how art can both engage viewers visually and inspire awareness and understanding of important environmental issues.

The students' artwork is currently on display at the Lambertville Free Public Library and the opening reception for the exhibit was May 7th. It was a big success and we are so grateful for the opportunity to display their beautiful work!

Students have also been enjoying working with clay to create pinch pots in 2nd and 3rd grade classes. The beautiful weather has also inspired students to create optical illusions with chalk outside the school!

A school wide collaborative art project is currently underway to create a Kindness Rock Garden! Students in grades Pre-K through 4th have been working hard to spread words of kindness and positivity on a beautifully designed rock. The unveiling of the rock garden will occur early June.
