Students at the elementary school celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week in many meaningful ways. Each day included a fun spirit day along with a kindness challenge to encourage positive actions throughout the school community.
Fourth Grade Buddy Activity
During a buddy activity, students designed and decorated coffee sleeves donated by Union Coffee. Stop in for a cup of coffee or hot cocoa, you just might be the recipient of one of our student-created works of art!
Cereal Boxes for Fisherman's Mark
Our staff and students also collected 109 boxes of cereal for Fisherman’s Mark, and we couldn’t be more proud of their generosity. Remember, together we can change the world, one random act of kindness at a time!
Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office Guest Reader
In celebration of Black History Month, Detective Brooks from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office visited students in grades K–4 to read a story and share about his role in law enforcement. Students enjoyed learning about his important work in the community and had the opportunity to hear firsthand what it means to serve and protect others.
Be sure to ask your children if they learned something new or interesting about working in law enforcement!
Fourth Graders Perform Random Acts of Kindness
Mrs. Andros and some of our 4th grade Safety Patrol students performed Random Acts of Kindness by delivering muffins to the local firehouse and police station! South Elementary is so grateful for all of our community helpers and the important work they do each day to keep us safe. We are proud of our students for showing appreciation and spreading kindness throughout our community!
More Fourth Grade Fun
Hatchet Skits: Mr. Hudak & Mrs. Cuozzi’s 4th graders brought learning to life by performing survival skits inspired by Hatchet and the SAS Survival Handbook as part of their Wit & Wisdom Extreme Settings module.
Let there be light: A recent 4th grade science project really shines! Students explored energy and circuits by lighting up their own room dioramas.
Community Classroom: Back in December, a parent from Ms. McDonald's fourth grade class came in to do a presentation and STEM activity in conjunction with their study of the novel Hatchet. Dr. Filomena Hengst presented on shelters and then had students design a shelter using cotton balls, foil and other materials.
Smart Cookie Celebration
We are proud to celebrate the outstanding efforts of our students at both the Middle School and Elementary School during our recent “Smart Cookie” Celebrations!
Students were recognized for meeting their i-Ready Stretch Goals, a significant academic achievement that reflects dedication, growth, and perseverance. i-Ready is an online diagnostic and personalized instruction program used in reading and mathematics. It measures individual student progress throughout the year and helps teachers tailor instruction to meet each learner’s needs.
Each student receives a personalized Stretch Goal based on their diagnostic results. These goals are ambitious yet attainable targets designed to accelerate growth beyond typical expectations. Meeting a Stretch Goal demonstrates not only academic improvement, but also strong effort, focus, and commitment to learning.
To honor their achievement, students were presented with certificates and celebrated in true “Smart Cookie” style — enjoying cookies and milk generously provided by the SHRSD PTO.
Congratulations to all of our Smart Cookie recipients! Your hard work truly paid off, and we are so proud of your accomplishments.
