During the week of April 7th to the 11th, South Hunterdon Elementary students participated in Abilities week! Throughout the week, students learned about different abilities. We embraced our individuality while recognizing our combined strength when we come together!

Mrs. Cortina read the book, We are All Wonders, to each of the classes and the students identified what makes them WONDER-ful. Buddy Classes came together to create a WHOLE SCHOOL paperchain to represent our connection as a school. On Wednesday April 9th, Dr. Paul came to speak to the elementary and middle school students about his life with Cerebral Palsy, and all his amazing accomplishments! His message of resilience and determination left a lasting impression on the entire school community.

The Watershed Institute

Recently, our first graders visited The Watershed Institute of Pennington and participated in a full day program titled, "Nature’s Copycats." We were very fortunate and grateful that this program was funded by The Veolia Water Company of Lambertville.

The Watershed Institute’s educational programs are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. During the program, the children explored animal and plant adaptations and discovered how people can use these same ideas to invent solutions to human problems. The students gained a better understanding of biomimicry. We also went on a hike on their trails to identify other ideas of biomimicry  from nature to solve human problems. Then, we held a student-led discussion about things that make their lives challenging at home and or school.

The students worked together to engineer a solution to some of the problems, using nature for their inspiration. Again, thank you to the Veolia Water Company for making this trip possible and the educators at the Watershed Institute for making it an amazing day!
