Preschoolers and Furry Friends

Our district preschoolers are currently in their "Pet/Vet" theme for the Tools of the Mind Curriculum. Our classrooms have been transformed into different centers for the students to explore and learn all about pets! Our little scholars are participating in centers to gain a better understanding of: different animals at a pet store, how animals are bathed at a pet groomer, how to train a pet at an obedience school, why animals need to visit a veterinarian, and how to adopt an animal at the humane society.

We are always looking for different ways to bring theme related experiences into the classroom and this month was filled with a lot of visitors.  We are extremely grateful to our administration, teachers and staff who took the time to bring some of our district's therapy dogs into all 5 of our preschool classrooms!  Our preschooler met "Riley" & Ms. Isabella, "Rayna" & Mr. Souzzo, "Gary" & Mr. Pedersen, "Ivey" & Mr. Harris and "Lemon" & Mr. Miller... one dog visited each day!  Students learned about the role of a therapy dog and the smiles were endless!

Another Special Visitor

We are also fortunate to have one of our preschool families grace us with some "future" chickens to watch in an incubator for the next few weeks until they hatch!  We will then be excited to return them to the farm to grow and thrive!

Preschool has a few more fun events coming up in April for the Month of the Young Child!  Be sure to check out our Prek and Kindergarten Expo on Thursday, April 24th from 5-7pm at the South Hunterdon Regional Elementary School and visit with some local vendors and resources!  More information will be coming.  Mark your calendars!

Checking in with Ms. Lubold's Class at the Middle School on Location

In Ms. Lubold’s PreK class at the Middle School on Location, students have been working on welcoming in the spring season by learning all about sunflowers! Students began with using their curriculum’s “science eyes” observation activity to examine characteristics of seeds. The exploration continued into literacy by reading informational text about the sunflower life cycle. They then planted their own sunflower seeds to keep on the windowsill for the next few weeks until they can identify growth and parts of the life cycle in their own sunflower. Students also painted sunflowers to keep in the classroom as a reminder of what their sunflower will soon look like!

Helping Kindness Grow!

During a lesson with Mrs. Cortina and Mr. Nocella, students in fourth grade helped Kindness grow. Students decorated flowers with inspiring words and hid them around the school. Staff especially enjoyed reading these motivational messages!
