Last week, SHRES celebrated Read Across America with our theme of "Read Books and Be Kind."

We started the week with a chance to “Cozy Up and Read” for enjoyment in our pjs and comfy clothes. On Tuesday, students designed bookmarks to donate to the Lambertville Free Library and a local senior center to share our love of reading and kindness with our community. They also got a second bookmark to decorate and keep.  The bookmarks look wonderful. Our students did an amazing job of coming up with creative designs and uplifting messages to write on the bookmarks.

We also had a visit from Mayor Norwick, who did a read aloud in one of our fourth grade classrooms. On Wednesday, our students had an opportunity to meet with their buddy class for buddy reading. They enjoyed being able to connect with their buddies and share their favorite books. Finally, on Thursday we had a blast reading everyone’s fun sayings for “Read My Shirt Day”.

Our school also participated in a week-long reading challenge. Students read at home independently or with their families and tracked how many minutes they read each night. Our school wide goal was to reach 12,000 minutes. Our amazing students SMASHED that goal and read a total of 23,305 minutes throughout the week!!!!!  Wow!!!!! Way to go Eagles!!!!!  The readers who read the most minutes in each grade received gift cards for Farley’s Bookshop located in New Hope, PA. Also, because we reached our goal all students will earn an extra recess to celebrate their participation.

Monday kicks off Math Week 2025 at SHRES! This year, Ms. Horton pulled themes from The International Day of Mathematics website. Students will have the opportunity to participate in daily activities to see how math is all around us.

Monday: Math is Everywhere: Students will participate in a scavenger hunt to see how math is part of our daily lives.

Math is a part of everything we do, including our bedtime routines!
From telling time to know when it’s bedtime, to measuring ingredients for a bedtime snack, to recognizing patterns on pajamas and blankets, math is everywhere! Just like math, pajamas come in all different patterns, shapes, and sizes—showing how numbers, geometry, and problem-solving are woven into everyday life.

Tuesday: Math for a Better WorldStudents will color a map of the world or build a 3D Fuller map.

Math is a powerful tool that helps us solve problems, create new possibilities, and make the world a better place. Just like math, positive thinking helps us tackle challenges, find solutions, and work together to improve our communities.

From designing fair systems in economics to engineering safe bridges, from predicting weather patterns to helping businesses run smoothly, math plays a role in shaping a brighter future. With math, creativity, and a positive mindset, we can build a better world for everyone!

Wednesday: Math UnitesStudents will explore how math and reading can go hand-in-hand.

Math is a universal language that connects people across different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences—just like our school spirit brings us together as one community! Math unites us in problem-solving, teamwork, and everyday life.

Math builds connections across subjects, careers, and the world. We are stronger when we work together and support one another!

Thursday: Playing with Math: Students will work to solve puzzles that use math.

Whether it's calculating scores, measuring distances, tracking time, or analyzing strategies, math is everywhere in the games we love.

Math challenges us to think critically, problem-solve, and keep practicing to improve. Numbers, geometry, and data are part of every game—proving that math makes learning even more exciting!
Each grade will work to solve a different puzzle in today’s poster.

Friday (Pi Day): Math for Everyone: Happy Pi Day! To celebrate, students will be completing Pi Day activities with circles.

On Pi Day, circles represent how math connects us all. Circles are everywhere in our daily lives, from wheels to clocks to pizzas, showing that math isn’t just for the classroom—it’s all around us.

Just as a circle has no beginning or end, the possibilities in math are endless, and everyone can find a place in it. By celebrating with circles, we show that math is for everyone, bringing us together to explore, discover, and have fun with numbers!
