Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. |
|
On January 17th, South Hunterdon Elementary students celebrated and honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Students listened to a quote read over the loudspeaker and gathered with their buddy class to complete a craft activity. Students also watched this video.
|
Students learned about Dr. King's mission. He is remembered for many things. Most of all, he worked hard to promote the message that no matter what someone looks like, we all have the right to be valued as an individual and to be treated as equals. He was a positive leader despite many challenges he faced. In honor of Dr. King, students worked with their buddies to create a memorable craft featuring two hands as well as a heart in the middle.
The words on the heart could mean many things. After coloring the heart and hands, student teams discussed what the words meant to them and wrote their reflections on lined paper. Finally, students glued the lined paper to the hands they colored. Students concluded their activity with an MLK themed movement break!

On Wednesday, January 22nd, Detective Brooks from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office stopped by to read, I am Martin Luther King Jr.to Prek-4 classes.
