Second grade students celebrated the New Year by reading, One Word For Kids: A Great Way to Have Your Best Year Yet.  Students learned how to "find" their own personal word.

Their chosen word could be something that they are good at and could offer others, or something that could help them be their best. Once students discovered their word, they made a bracelet with their word on it.

Fourth Graders Explore Extreme Environments

Last month, Ms. McDonald's fourth-grade class combined literature and geography in an engaging project inspired by Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. As part of their studies on extreme settings, students researched mountain ranges from around the world, using a variety of sources, including survival guides.

They used what they learned to create informational brochures for travelers, offering key details and practical tips about these unique environments. The project wrapped up with students presenting their brochures to the class, showcasing their hard work and creativity. It’s been a fun and educational way to explore the connection between literature and the natural world!

Checking in with PreK at the Middle School On Location!

Ms. Cammarata's PreK classes at the Middle School On Location engaged in two special activities just before winter break. For Science, students read the story From Seed to Pine Tree Following the Life Cycle by Susanne Slade. After reading the story, the class explored giant pine cones that were brought up from South Carolina. Each student painted their pine cone green to replicate an evergreen tree.

Ms. Cammarata's class has continued to work on pre-writing and fine motor skills during their graphics practice lessons. Graphics Practice allows students to develop self-regulation by listening to music while writing/drawing a given letter-string or symbol. Students enjoy this activity due to it being a "freeze dance" for writing practice. Last week the students drew candy canes that help write the letter-strings for "f".

A final activity that has recently taken place in Ms. Cammarata's classroom is their Gingerbread House Decorating Party! Parents of the students were invited into the classroom to help their child create a fun gingerbread house the day before winter break. The students loved being able to spend time with their parents in their classroom and share this special activity with them.
