News from World Languages with Ms. Magnolia Perez:

  • First grade teachers and Spanish have teamed up to teach across the curriculum. Our Spanish PreK-2 grade students are learning the ABC in Spanish in conjunction with Wit & Wisdom 1st grade curriculum: names of animals which begin with each Spanish letter of the alphabet. By the end of this Unit, our PreK-2 graders would have completed 30 letters and 30 animal names accompanied by a coloring/letter sheet.

  • In addition, our 2nd graders are also learning an additional animal name in Spanish from the American West. In this way, we are also collaborating across the curriculum with 2nd grade Wit & Wisdom Unit on the American West.

  • The Spanish bulletin board during November and December is a collaboration of Special Area teachers and their subjects (photos attached). For December the theme is the holidays: Santa visits Spanish class and the Los Tres Reyes Magos visit all the other Special classes. In this way, we are teaching our students about cross-cultures collaboration and fusion. Spanish class students will be contributing to the December bulletin board with decorations. Note: at SHRMS on location December´s bulletin board exhibits the same.

A note of gratitude from Nahed Andraos

Extra! Extra! My heart and my ELLs hearts are filled with gratitude towards our Admin team and our generous district for ordering a ScanMarker device to translate any text immediately to any language. This makes reading and comprehending new materials in any subject much easier and beneficial for ELLs. This device is totally a game changer - technology can do some amazing things!
